These are more than 10 years old pictures from Amsterdam. Sometimes it’s nice to go back in time to see old stuff you made. And perhaps redo them?
In April of 2015 some 45 swedes went to Amsterdam to make street photography photos. I was at that time fairly new at this (since less than 3 years back), even if I’ve been taking photos with an SLR camera since I was a teenager.
The things is – you learn as you go along. And I’ve learned a lot. About my cameras, about composition, about editing and much more. So when I found a new way to do my postproduction this year, it’s only natural that I want to test it on older pics. So, some of these I’ve showed before, some not at all. But they’re all edited in a (for me) newer way. And they are all in black and white, even if I make a lot of colour photos these days.
In street photography, it is all about capturing the moment. That fleeting fraction of a second which would otherwise slip away unnoticed in the hum of the city. (Scroll down for text in Swedish…)
In these images, time stands still at the very point where the everyday suddenly becomes something more. Encounters and expressions, light and shadow, movement and stillness. Each photograph is a suspended story, leaving room for you as the viewer to complete with your own imagination.
“In Transit” is rather like a stopover. A state of change, a passage in which you have not yet arrived. It carries a sense of the story between two points. It hints at movement, transition, and an in-between state without disclosing the destination. Almost as if to say: “I am on my way, but the story is yet to be finished.”

01. Near Waterloo station, May 2025. Find a background and wait. Quite a long time actually.

03. Outside Nordstan in Gothenburg 2014. The picture was taken one of the last days of December. You can make out the Christmas gift wrapping at Posthotellet in the background.
04. Paris Metro, 2019. I like subways and have taken a lot of photos in and around them in several cities. You can always find new motifs. In this case, I only saw the reflection of the woman during the image editing.
05. Gothenburg, Slottsskogen on National Day 2022. I walked close, very close and sat down. I don’t think they saw me even for a second, because they were completely in their own world.
06. London Underground, 2018. I stood and watched the waiting guy sitting along the wall. Taken less than a meter from him.
07. Taken at the quay in Antwerp this summer (2025), the water is the river Scheldt, (on its way out to the North Sea).
I was going to call the picture (for obvious reasons) 238. But I think it will remain nameless.
08. Esperanto Square in Gothenburg, 2019. I had a chat with the guy in the picture. He wanted to explain that many photographers don’t find the right “peak” on the trick. Too bad I don’t know his name, because I would have liked to show him the picture and ask if it was ok.
09. Järntorget in Gothenburg, a December day last year (2024). The picture was part of (and my only) entry to the Dugge Street Lens competition. A competition where the people in the picture were not allowed to be identifiable.
10. London and the subway again. Taken in May 2025. Decided for a long time whether this picture would be best in black and white or in color. Even asked friends on Facebook what they thought.
11. London, along Brick Lane 2022. Again. Wonderful background. So patience is your best friend. And yes, I have more pictures with the same background, this is the one I like best myself.
12. Bilbao/Bilboko, near the Guggenheim Museum, 2017. Found the stairs, waited and took the picture (which is in colour if you look carefully).
13. In front of the Antwerp Cathedral, July 2025. If a boy lies comfortably on the statue of a boy and his best friend the dog – take the picture. Nello and Patrasche are the main characters in the novel A Dog from Flanders from 1872. The story takes place in Hoboken and Antwerp. Nello, a poor orphan boy, befriends Patrasche, an abandoned dog. They go to town together every day. They often visit the cathedral, where Nello admires Rubens’ paintings. Due to a series of setbacks, Nello and Patrasche’s lives end in the same cathedral. They die together. The statue of the two of them is on the Handschoenmarkt, Artist is Batist Vermeulen.
14. London’s South Bank, 2025. There you can find a row of “different” benches. This is my favorite, which I have taken pictures of on several different occasions. The creator of the benches is Jeppe Hein. The artistic name of the benches is “Modified Social Benches”.
15. Paris, in the Latin Quartiers in May 2025. I probably walked half a kilometer behind the woman with the beautiful shoes. All to find some way to “frame” the red.
16. London, Charing Cross, 2025. Saw the escalator, saw the blue tone. So I waited for someone who could fit the scene. The stripes were just “lucky”.
17. Rome, Trastevere, 2018. Bachelorette party. I went up close to take a picture of the bride-to-be. Then one of my friends appeared near the camera and the picture was truly a work of art.
18. Brandenburger Tor in Berlin, 2014. These fellas stood a long time behind the gate and were preparing. Then I went to see my friends on the other side and voilà, there they came dancing…
I rörelse
Inom gatufotografi handlar allt om att fånga ögonblicket. Den där bråkdelen av en sekund som annars skulle försvinna obemärkt i stadens brus.
I dessa bilder stannar tiden just där vardagen plötsligt blir något mer. Här finns möten och uttryck, ljus och skuggor, rörelser och pauser. Varje bild är en frusen berättelse som lämnar utrymme för dig som betraktare, att fylla med din egen historia.
”In Transit” är lite som en mellanlandning, ett tillstånd av förändring, en passage där du ännu inte är framme. Det bär lite mer av en berättelse mellan två punkter. Det antyder rörelse, övergång och ett mellantillstånd utan att avslöja målet.
Lite som att säga: ”Jag är på väg, historien är inte färdig än.”

07. Tagen vid kajen i Antwerpen i somras (2025), vattnet är floden Scheldt, (på väg ut mot Nordsjön).
Jag tänkte kalla bilden (av uppenbara skäl) för 238. Men jag tror att den förblir namnlös.
08. Esperantoplatsen i Göteborg, 2019. Killen på bilden hade jag en pratstund med. Han ville förklara att många fotografer inte hittar rätt ”peak” på tricket. Synd att jag inte vet hans namn, för jag hade gärna visat bilden för honom och frågat om den blev ok.
09. Järntorget i Göteborg, en decemberdag förra året (2024). Bilden var del av (och mitt enda) bidrag till Dugge Street Lens tävling. En tävling där människorna i bilden inte fick vara identifierbara.
10. London och tunnelbanan igen. Tagen i maj2025. Valde länge om denna bild skulle vara bäst svartvit eller i färg. Frågade till och med vänner på Facebook vad de tyckte.
11. London, utmed Brick Lane 2022. Återigen. Underbar bakgrund. Så tålamod är din bästa vän. Och ja, jag har fler bilder med samma bakgrund, det är denna jag gillar bäst själv.
12. Bilbao/Bilboko, nära Guggenheimmuseet, 2017. Hittade trappan, väntade och tog bilden (som är i färg om du tittar efter ordentligt).
13. Framför katedralen i Antwerpen, juli 2025. Om en pojke lägger sig bekvämt på statyn om en pojke och hans bästa vän hunden – ta bilden. Nello and Patrasche är huvudkaraktärerna i romanen En hund från Flandern från 1872. Berättelsen utspelar sig i Hoboken och Antwerpen. Nello, en fattig föräldralös pojke, blir vän med Patrasche, en övergiven hund. De går till stan tillsammans varje dag. De besöker ofta katedralen, där Nello beundrar Rubens målningar. På grund av en rad motgångar slutar Nello och Patrasches liv i samma katedral. De dör tillsammans. Statyn med de båda finns på Handschoenmarkt, Konstnär är Batist Vermeulen.
14. Londons South Bank, 2025. På South bank kan du hitta en rad ”annorlunda” bänkar. Denna är min favorit, som jag tagit bilder vid flera olika tillfällen. Skaparen till bänkarna heter Jeppe Hein. Bänkarna s konstnärliga namn är “Modified Social Benches”.

16. London, Charing Cross, 2025. Såg rulltrappan, såg den blåa tonen. Så jag väntade på någon som kunde passa i scenen. Ränderna vara bara ”tur”.
17. Rom, Trastevere, 2018. Möhippa. Jag gick fram nära för att fota den blivande bruden. Då dök en av vänner upp nära kameran och bilden blev verkligen ett ögonblicksverk.
18. Brandenburger Tor i Berlin, 2014. Dessa killar stod länge bakom monumentet och förberedde sig. Sedan gick jag för att träffa mina vänner på andra sidan och voilà, där kom de dansande…
It’s just for fun, but still a bit amazing. Still. I tried out the Google AI NotebookLM to create a post cast. A version of my now re-edited version of the workshop for basic street photography.
It’s AI, but not really flawed at all. Sometimes, they move along the chapters to quick. And some of the “editing” between bits aren’t… lovely. But, it’s still a less than 20 minutes worth of listening too. Wanna give it a try?
With photographs from London, Lisbon, Berlin, Chicago and Gothenburg my exhibition turned out quite ok. As a creator you always see the small flaws and all, but taking two steps back even I can think: “I’m ok”.
It’s hung inside the Swedish Television and Swedish Radio broadcasting building in Gothenburg, so not that easy to access it. But for me, as a first ever, it is nice enough. You like it too?
In a few weeks I’ll be back again. Last time it was for Thanksgiving and the November wind was less forgiving.
This time it’ll be summer and we’ll be approximately 12 Swedish Street photographers, staying for a long weekend. Me, I’ll first visit my family in Indy (Indianapolis). Seeing them again is a must, but after that I’ll indulge in all of the more or less dramatic Chicago scenes. See you there?
Recently got a question for my best tips in Street photography. Three came to me instantly, to me the most important ones: 1. Get close, 2. Eyes and 3. Take lot of photos.
Eyes are to me the most important element in street photography. Eyes looking at you or projecting and leading to something else, maybe the main motif? When I walk the street it’s eyes I look for most of the time. Here a few examples of what I mean.
This Friday, a local restaurant in Borås is exhibiting some of my street images. At Tonys Restaurang you can see a small collection of pictures from London, Berlin, Amsterdam and Gothenburg.
On the street, it doesn’t have to be perfect. The emotions count, no matter how technically good you are. So, sometimes I like it to be not only rough and somewhat “unfinished”, but also out of focus. It works as it is.
If you find a nice set of stairs, get yourself in a nice position and wait. You’ll get a good picture soon.
