Imagination out of the ordinary
Walked about this last Saturday, had a stop at “7:ans ölhall” (a classic pub i Gothenburg). It’s always nice to meet friendly, open people. He (sorry, didn’t ask for your name) was from Jonkoping, just celebrating a friend’s 60th over the weekend. And he didn’t mind me taking his portrait.
No. It’s not a new trick. But an old principle of composition and visual design. Put the dominating eye centered on the vertical linje. The depicted person will now always look straight at you, no matter from where you look at the picture…
The dominating eye? The one that is in the brightest area, closest to you or just the most obvious one.
A show of visual language. These three portraits are all adjusted so that no matter what angle you watch them from, the person in the pic will look straight at you. Do you know how it’s done?
It’s all in aligning the dominating eye…
I saw her glasses first, than the rest. To bad I couldn’t get her to look straight into my camera…
To be one of many, doesn’t necessarily mean together.
This young woman looked at me for a longer period of time, probably interested in the fact that I was taking several pics around Kungsportsplatsen in Gothenburg. But, didn’t matter how much I tried, couldn’t get a pic of her more up front than this, as she cunningly averted me (and my camera). I bet she felt that she “won” ;).
To me (I’ve said it before…) eyes are extremely important. They can almost always save an otherwise quite mediocre pic. And they can tell you lengths in just a glance.
When people, urban environment and nature interact. Slightly dramatic, wouldn’t you say?
